Our People

Our vicar, the Ven Dr Kelvin Wright, was elected as the ninth Bishop of Dunedin in October 2009.  He left St John's in February 2010, to be ordained as Bishop on the 27th of that month.  (More information can be found on our News page and on the Diocesan website.)  The parish has begun the process of searching for a new vicar.

In the meantime, the Revd Roger Barker, recently vicar of Port Chalmers, has been appointed as Priest in Charge.

During the interregnum period, Roger will be working in the parish mainly from Wednesday to Sunday.  He will have the use of the former Youth Worker's office as well as a room in the vicarage.

Sound recordings of most of Vicar Kelvin's sermons from 2001 onwards will remain available in our Sermon Archive.  He is also maintaining a blog; the address is http://vendr.blogspot.com.

Vicar of St Mary's Mornington: The Revd John Sherlock

John Sherlock    John Sherlock was born and raised in Christchurch and moved to Dunedin in 1998 for post-graduate work in classical studies.  John was ordained as a priest after completing an Otago post-graduate diploma in theology whilst training at St John's College in Auckland.  He is married to Connie and they have two sons, Jesse (b. 2004) and Finlay (b. 2006).  John has interests in music and contemporary worship.

John was a curate at St John's Roslyn from late 2005, and in February 2007 he became Priest-in-Charge at our neighbouring parish of St Mary's Mornington, as part of the new Dunedin Hills Ministry Team.  In December 2008 he was formally installed as Vicar of St Mary's.

Sound recordings of some of John's sermons can be found in our St Mary's sermon archive.
